Ultimate diastereoselectivity in the ring closure of photochromic diarylethene possessing facial chirality.

A bisthienylethene with hitherto unprecedented facial chirality imposed by a triethyleneglycol bridge on a thiophene ring was synthesized and its photochromic ring closure was shown to occur with 100% diastereoselectivity upon UV-light irradiation.

Evidence of aggregation induced emission enhancement and keto-enol-tautomerism in a gallic acid derived salicylideneaniline gel.

A novel salicylideneaniline type fluorescent organogelator based on a 3,4,5-(tri-dodecyloxy)benzoyl group immobilizes aromatic solvents. The resulting gels show enhancement in emission and thermochromic/non-photochromic behaviour during sol-to-gel transition.

A strategy to design novel structure photochromic sensitizers for dye-sensitized solar cells

Two sensitizers with novel structure were designed and synthetized by introducing photochromic bisthienylethene (BTE) group into the conjugated system. Thanks to the photochromic effect the sensitizers have under ultraviolet and visible light, the conjugated bridge can be restructured and the resulting two photoisomers showed different behaviors in photovoltaic devices. This opens up a new rese...

Molecular basis of the light-driven switching of the photochromic fluorescent protein Padron.

Reversibly switchable fluorescent proteins can be repeatedly photoswitched between a fluorescent and a nonfluorescent state by irradiation with the light of two different wavelengths. The molecular basis of the switching process remains a controversial topic. Padron0.9 is a reversibly switchable fluorescent protein with "positive" switching characteristics, exhibiting excellent spectroscopic pr...

A ‘‘reverse interrupter’’: the novel molecular design of a fluorescent photochromic DTE-based bipyridinew

Fluorescent switching systems containing photochromic molecules have attracted significant attention on account of their potential uses as optical memory media and photoswitchable devices. Most systems offering the photomodulation of luminescence involve a photochrome covalently linked to an organic or metal–organic fluorophore, wherein the luminescence is regulated by an intramolecular energy ...
